The Living Collection represents a comprehensive account of the history, accession, care and maintenance of the world-famous plant collection at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. It also contains lots of practical advice and information for managing conservation and scientific plant collections.

I worked closely with the author, David Rae, former Director of Horticulture at RBGE, on this information-dense and richly-illustrated guide. A carefully devised grid that allowed groups of related images, extended captions, and tabular data helped organise and present the information in such a way as to avoid overwhelming the reader. A typographic system with a thoughtful hierarchy of headings and different text treatments was also essential to maintain clarity of understanding.
