Benmore Chilean Hillside
Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh
2016
The Chilean Hillside is an area of Benmore Botanic Garden near Dunoon. It contains a variety of Chilean plants and trees – many of them threatened – but which grow well in the climatic conditions of their adopted home-from-home in the West of Scotland.
Established in 2000, by 2016 the plants were starting to mature, and the slopes were begining to resemble a natural Chilean temperate rainforest. This was an excellent time to tell visitors about the importance of growing plants for conservation purposes and to reveal fascinating stories behind the plants.
We worked with the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh’s Martin Gardner and Benmore Curator Peter Baxter to provide a masterplan for a comprehensive visitor interpretation scheme for the Hillside. Our work then continued with graphic design, editorial help and overseeing production to complete the scheme.
